Synopsis/Bio:

Lise Haller Baggesen was born in Denmark, where she received her first education in the visual arts at Billedskolen in Copenhagen, before moving to the Netherlands to study painting at the AKI Academy of Arts and Industrial design in Enschede; the Netherlands. After her bachelors degree in 1995, she completed a two year work period at the Rijksacademy, an international post-graduate artist residency programme based in Amsterdam, with Luc Tuymans, Narcisse Tordoir, Avis Newman, Lisa Milroy as her primary advisors. By recommendation of the Rijksacademy she was awarded the ‘Prins Berhard Prize’ for art school garduates. Part of the price concists of a commission of a work in a public spac, which was installed in the University of Amsterdam in 2000. In 2002 she was awarded the ‘Royal Painting Prize’, the most prestigious painting prize for young painters in the Netherlands, by her Royal Highness Queen Beatrix.

In 2008 she completed mural for the social services in Groningen, commissioned by the Chief government Architect and the ministry of justice. She has taught painting and drawing at, among others, the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the AKI Academy in Enschede and was a member of the board of the ‘basis-stipend’ of the FondsBKVB, the Dutch foundation for the visual arts. She has curated and organized group exhibitions in The Netherlands and in Denmark and is a founding member of the Amsterdam based artists organisation Calcite Revolt.

Her paintings, installations and drawings have been shown in galleries and museums in Europe and outside, including the Municipial Museum of the Hague, the MoMu (fashion museum) in Antwerp, the Wurttembergischem Kunstverein in Stuttgart and CAEC, the Chinese European Art Center in Xiamen, as well as in numerous solo exhibitions in Amsterdam. Her work is represented in private and public collections including those of multinationals AKZO-Nobel, OCE van de Ginten and ABN-AMRO.

Since 2008 she is living and working in Chicago.
