BATYKÓ RÓBERT & JURRIAAN MOLENAAR

NO MAN’S LAND

From 22-06-2014 Until 24-08-2014

———————————— Jurriaan Molenaar en Róbert Batykó No Man’s land This is the third exhibition of Jurriaan Molenaar in the gallery. This time together with the work of Róbert Batykó with whom he maintains a long-term friendship. The title is based on both their outlook on life, their subjects and techniques. Jurriaan Molenaar finds inspiration for his paintings from the human inability to be one with the environment; he often feels like an outsider or a newcomer in a strange place. Someone who observes but does not understand. This is how he paints things too: they are razor sharp but still remain elusive. They look like something, but not enough to provide security. This creates space for various associations. If one does not know the meaning of things, one goes in search of their meaning. This search Molenaar finds more interesting than the answer. In some work, for example, a horizontal line could be the horizon, but also the edge of a window. Questions that have engaged him; What is a window if there is no view? What is a pool, if no one swims? What is a home, if it is not decorated? What do you see, if nothing happens? Also the most fundamental question: what am I doing here? Both painters leave the ‘story’ that art can tell to the viewer. Both consider the loss of meaning of their work as the perfect state of freedom. Batykó uses waste to demonstrate and express himself and Jurriaan Molenaar uses doors and windows as the ultimate way out. Jurriaan Molenaar lives and works in Weesp. Róbert Batykó lives and works in Budapest (Hungary). The opening is Sunday, June 22 2014 between 3-6 pm in the presence of the artists. The exhibition runs from 22 June until 30 August 2014. There is a catalog with the exhibition. The exhibition was made possible by the Materiaalfonds voor Beeldende Kunst en Vormgeving.
