Since his training at the Rijksakademie Amsterdam, Jurriaan Molenaar (Amersfoort, 1968) has mainly been known for his paintings of carefully abstracted, architectural scenes. He is concerned with clarity and the atmosphere that the perspectivistic spaces evoke. With his work he wants to offer silence and inner space.

What’s real? That’s the key question he bases his work on. His works are questions. What you’re seeing isn’t his story, it’s the viewer’s story. Recognition points are given, but something’s missing. What is absent is evoked in the viewer’s imagination.
